This Past Week

We had a lot of fun this past week.  On Saturday, October 8th, Remington Forbes and I rocked out with Ruckus Roboticus at DayCon V in Dayton, OH.  It’s always a pleasure to kick it with the folks in the woh.rr.com area ;]

I was also interviewed on two separate podcasts this past week.

Most recently I was interviewed by Thomas Gideon of The Command Line Podcast.  This was a pretty challenging interview as Thomas is quite articulate and asked insightful questions that really made me think about why we make Dual Core music.  Of course, we do it for the lulz as it’s obviously fun, but there were several aspects behind the drive that I hadn’t really considered in the past, and Thomas did a great job in evoking some elaboration on those.

The other podcast was Linux For The Rest Of Us.  This was a more lighthearted discussion about how I use Dual Core to goof off.  Ok it was more about how much fun it is to be a part of Dual Core and how fortunate I feel for everything.  There is also some tech discussion so if you want more substance than just me ranting about how much I love hip hop, definitely check out this podcast as well.

Next up: Hack3rcon in WV, and of course, hacking all the things :D

DerbyCon Party with Rapid7

From http://www.derbycon.com/2011/09/27/derbycon-party-sponsored-by-rapid7/

We’re proud to announce that Rapid7 is now the official sponsor for the DerbyCon after-hours party. The party will run from 10:00PM until 2:00AM with Dual Core rapping to some tunes and Scott Ullrich with DJing. A special thanks to Rapid7 for sponsoring the party, without them this would not have been possible. We look forward to seeing everyone at the event.

Beer is free until we run out, mixed drinks will cost you. The Hyatt is providing bartenders for the party.

Dual Core on Metasploit.com

You may remember we released the song “Mastering Success and Failure” not too long ago.  Shortly thereafter, metasploit.com underwent a re-design.  Take a look at the second rotation in the header:

It’s us!  How cool is that?!  Also the metasploit team is still up to their excellent 1337ness, as usual :D

sxsw->2011.day[0]

SXSW 2011 has been a blast and it’s started only just.  Lo Tech picked me up from the airport, and we eventually ended up walking around downtown Austin.  Snipe messaged me to advise (demand?) stopping by BSidesAustin.  One thing lead to another, and next thing I know I was rapping for an awesome crowd of my security colleagues including Jayson Street, Keith Casey, and @diami03.

Good times were had, freestyles were created, and albums were sold.  We then went to the icanhascheezburger party and Microsoft (Bing) bought us drinks the whole time we were there.  Lo Tech also snagged a plush Happy Cat from the party (pictured above).

After that we bar hopped for a bit and then called it a night.  It was such a blast meeting and hanging out with everyone!

tl;dr: SXSW 2011 is off to a phenomenal start!  Phenomenal, I say (patent pending — inside joke) :D
